Prizes & Opportunities

 

Marianne Mathy Scholarship: $30,000 will be awarded to a contestant who is under the age of 26 years on 23 June 2009.  The funds, to be used within five years, enable the recipient to undertake or continue a program of study and/or singing activity approved by a Monitoring Committee.  (See Rules & Conditions).

The winner of The Marianne Mathy Scholarship will also receive:-

ABC Classic FM Prize - Studio recording engagement for national transmission on ABC Classic FM.  The winner has to make his/her own arrangements with the local branch of ABC Classic FM in his/her home state.  http://www.abc.net.au/classic/

2MBS-FM Recording Engagement -Studio recording with 2MBS-FM 102.5 to be broadcast on the Australian Fine Music Network.  The recipient must provide his/her own accompanist.  The recording will take place at a mutually suitable time.  A CD of the broadcast will be provided to the recipient.  www.2mbs.com

Kathrin Longhurst Portrait Prize - Framed original oil portrait of the winner. www.kathrinlonghurst.com

Editorial Resources Prize - Professionally produced resume. www.editorial.net.au

Oral History - Taped interview by oral historian Diana Ritch will be recorded and retained within the Oral History Collection of the National Library of Australia.

The Mathy - Limited edition Drago Cherina sculpture presented by Music & Opera Singers Trust Limited.

Guildhall School of Music & Drama Award:  Fees for one year’s study at the Guildhall School in the Post Diploma Vocal Training Course in the academic year 2010/2011.  The recipient will need to make his/her own travel and living arrangements.  www.gsmd.ac.uk  

The winner will also receive the Sheila Prior Australian Opera Auditions Committee Prize of $5000 and the Phoebe Patrick Award of $3000.

Royal Northern College of Music Award : Fees for one year’s study at the College in Manchester in the academic year 2010/2011.  The recipient will need to make his/her own travel and living arrangements.  www.rncm.ac.uk        

The winner will also receive the Clark & Associates Prize of $5000.

Mozart Opera Institute Award:  Fees for one year's study at the University Mozarteum Salzburg in the Post Diploma Opera Course at the Mozart-Opera Institute in the academic year 2010/2011.  The recipient will need to make his/her own travel and living arrangements. www.moz.ac.at  www.mozartoper.at 

The winner will also receive the Nell Pascall Award of $3000 and the Woodward Family Prize of $2500.

Nelly Apt Scholarship: Up to $15,000 to cover airfares, living expenses and Scholarship to attend the International Vocal Arts Institute in Israel in July 2010.  The 4-week summer program is conducted by Joan Dornemann of the Metropolitan Opera and brings together outstanding teachers and students.  www.ivai.org

Symphony Australia Young Vocalist Award: $5000 and a professional engagement with an orchestra in the Symphony Australia network.  www.symphony.net.au

Foster Award: $5000 presented by the Sydney Opera House.  This winner will be selected by audience vote at the Finals. www.sydneyoperahouse.com

Universal Music Australia Prize: Outstanding classical CDs to the value of $3000 www.musicpages.com.au

David Harper Award: Ten lessons with David Harper in either Australia or UK at a mutually suitable time.

Christine Leaves Award: Thirty hours of publicist consultation, business and promotional planning over a 12-month period.

Opera~Opera Merchandising Prize: $500 worth of scores, libretti, VHS cassettes and/or DVDs.

Haas Award: $500 for each of the Finalists presented by Music & Opera Singers Trust Limited.

Opera Australia Prize: Opportunity for all Finalists to attend rehearsals in Melbourne or Sydney, observing an opera throughout the stages of its production. www.opera-australia.org.au

   

The following Awards will be made at the Semi-Finals:           

Tinkler Encouragement Award: $500 for a singer not selected as a Finalist.

Vision Personal Training Prize: 20 half-hour or 10 one-hour sessions of personal training awarded to a Semi-Finalist who can be in Sydney for the relevant period.  This prize must be used within 12 months of being awarded. www.visionpt.com.au  

Goethe-Institut Award: One term scholarship to attend a German language course in Sydney presented by the Goethe-Institut.  www.goethe.de

Merenda Prize: Private Italian coaching over a six month period with Sydney based Francesca Merenda. The lessons will be structured according to the winner’s individual needs.  Click here for Francesca's biography.

Parszos Prize:  Private Italian coaching over a six month period with Sydney based Joyce Parszos.  The lessons will be structured according to the winner’s individual needs.  Click here for Joyce's biography.

Radzyminski Family Prize: Private French tuition over a six month period with Sydney based Lucienne Radzyminski. The lessons will be structured according to the winner’s individual needs.  Click here for Lucienne's biography.

Running Bare Prize: Package of sports clothing and accessories to the value of $250 for each of the Semi-Finalists www.runningbare.com.au

The recipients of any Scholarships and Prizes are reminded that the cash component is a form of income. Any enquiries regarding tax should be referred to the Deputy Commissioner of Taxation, an accountant or a registered tax consultant.   The Australian Singing Competition acts as the Co-Ordinator of the above prizes and opportunities and cannot accept responsibility if a provider is unable to fulfil its obligations in any form.    If the recipient of any Scholarship connected to funds elects not to proceed with that Scholarship, the associated funds must be forfeited and may be made available to another Finalist.    The Australian Singing Competition takes no responsibility for the acceptance of scholarships which involve overseas travel.  This decision is taken solely at the discretion of the recipient who should check the current status of the country in question with the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs at the time of travel.
